This is an "Oops Bag" containing an imperfect "The Return to the Gates" cassette from The Cold's project, Tears ov Blood. The only imperfection is that the black ink on the j-card has slight stripes from a clogged ink nozzle. All cassettes play perfectly. The bag also includes a "sample size" incomplete copy of Matt's zine, Phengophobia, and a Tears ov Blood sticker with Matthew's hand drawn logo. Limited to 6 pieces. The music on this third Tears ov Blood cassette release was recreated from what was to be the first Tears of Blood album: "Two Candles in a Stone Wall," which was recorded in 1993 but never released.

This version was originally released in 1995, and contains re-workings/re-recordings of five of the eight tracks planned for that early collection (with some also being re-titled), plus an additional Secret Stairways-esque instrumental, "The Passing Clouds." The three "missing" songs from the original planned release are now lost to the sands of time...

The sound overall is a bit more spare, atmospheric, and more guitar-based than the other two Tears ov Blood cassette releases.

A dreamy, beguiling, nostalgic dungeon synth quest through the shires. But, it's so much more than that. The LP incorporates some unique key changes, field recordings and a lot of Mort Garson style synth work. It sometimes reminds me of old 70's PG horror soundtracks. The record is addictive melancholy inspiration. The ideal music for accompanying the dawning morning of an epic adventure. brantly

I love the mix of quiet melancholy and soaring wonder here. Listening makes me feel like I am looking up at the night sky on another world, watching impossible boreal colors dance along the horizon while tall trees sway in the keening wind, and gray-cloaked figures add their own long-dead voices to the joyful lament.
